     Software Engineer, Data Storage Test

     Test engineer focusing on storage on Cray's high performance computing (HPC) systems; direct attached storage (DAS), network attached storage (NAS) and Lustre based solutions.

·          Develop, plan and execute testing of current and new data storage systems on Cray’s HPC systems.

o   Work with vendors to resolve complex file system and data storage issues.

General Dynamics C4s, Bloomington, Minnesota                                                    2007-2011

     Principal Systems Engineer, Data Storage Engineer

     Provided technical leadership to develop bleeding edge ruggedized computer systems with the successful requirement and product definition, development, and integration of over 10 hardware modules. Managed outside vendors, hardware and software development, partners, and prime customer on $1.2B Army programs.

·          Defined, architected, and managed the development of a ruggedized 6U VITA 46 RAID controller to support National Security Agency (NSA) Type 1 Fibre Channel (FC) Encrypter (FCE) with an added IPMI management interface. Responsible for formal vendor selection process, mechanical and electrical layout, component selection to satisfy industrial temperature requirements for the RAID controller. Also managed the media testing and vendor selection of rotating and SSD media used by the RAID.

·          Responsible for defining requirements, for vendor selection, and for program tracking of VITA 46 Line Replaceable Modules for the Army Brigade Combat Team Modernization (BCTM) (731 requirements) to satisfy the Army and Prime contractor’s needs.

o   Ethernet Switch / Router, based on Cisco IOS and SNORT Intrusion Detection System (IDS) (345 requirements)

o   Ethernet Router, IDS, by Juniper running Junos (383 requirements), worked with Juniper and Program Management to define and implement custom product support contract to address unique program requirements for 80 units.

o   NSA Type 1 SATA Encrypter (147 requirements)

·          Defined, architected, and managed the development of a JPEG2000 and H.264 Video Co-Processor (VCP). Responsible for formal vendor selection process, which was defined by the Prime contractor, and project management of Commercial Off The shelf (COTs) vendors for the FPGA hardware. Worked with external customers and multiple software development teams to define and implement drivers and Application Program Interface (API).

·          Resolved Linux system integration issues including CPUs, Ethernet Switch, router, Solid State Devices (SSDs) providing vendor’s sequences to reproduce and proving analyzer traces.

·          Presented with an “Engineering Technical Excellence Award” for initiative, flexibility, innovation, empowerment, and teamwork.

Participated in business development for General Dynamic’s data storage products transitioning to formal Software Verification Test (SVT) for Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS), Current Force and Future Force.

·          Developed Test Plans, and Test Procedures and wrote test cases to validate embedded Red Hat, and LYNUXWORKS RTOS using Microsoft’s Visual Studio, C#. Proficient using DOORs, DXL, Clear Case, and Clear Quest tools.

Senior Systems Engineer

Pre-sales, product validation, customer integration, for Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and shared files systems.

·          Business Development of RAID in Asia market with 50% of time spent in Japan over 9 months.

·          Design, implement and support heterogeneous SAN and NAS solutions based on ADIC’s StoreNext and Veritas software on Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, SGI IRIX and Linux.

·          Provided presales support for Sun, SGI and NT environments.  Wrote performance and competitive analysis to assist customers in maximizing their installed RAID system performance.

·          Key engineer in creation and development of design verification testing for Ciprico’s Sun and NT utilities. Initiated development of GUI utility for NT using VC++.

Hardware and Software Architect, and Technical Director of Engineering and Operations

Grew company focused on SCSI and Fibre Channel (FC) test products and analysis equipment expanding the company from 2 people to a team of over 20, from ~$100,000 annual revenue to over $4.5M.

·          Directed and managed a staff of engineers and the operations department in product definition, hardware and software development and production over a period of 8 years.

·          Set up distribution structure which included 4 US product representatives and 7 international distributors -- international focus was in Europe and Japan.

·          Developed and granted patent, 5,715,409 for ‘Universal SCSI Electrical Interface System’.

·          Developed and granted design patent D345,961 for ‘SCSI Bus Monitor’.

 

Seagate Technology, Bloomington, Minnesota

Senior Controller Engineer

Firmware development, project lead for 3 generations of data storage controllers.

·          Software project leader for a drive firmware development group of ~5 engineers.

·          Responsible for the interface and controller architecture of new disk drive products.

·          Wrote Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) code for the Eight-Inch Module Drive (EMD) SCSI embedded synchronous controller in 8051 assembly for on schedule first product delivery.

·          Architected and wrote Adaptec Development compatible SCSI tester code written in ‘C’ with both menu interface and run-time library used for production testing of disk drives.
